"I first used a hand lettered version of this look on the Carmenet label. I've had this alphabet designed in my head for some time. It's perfect for upscale work. Like wine, this font is well rooted in the past, but meant to be appreciated and used in the here and now. Extreme contrasts and sharp endings may remotely remind some blackletters, especially in narrowed styles. There's nothing too fancy about Pool Deck JNL, which is based on an older typeface design. It's your basic sans serif condensed type style with a few unconventional letter shapes.

A photo of the now closed [circa-1953] Lowell Municipal Pool (at 1601 N. 28th St.) in Boise, Idaho shows the words “Municipal Pool” formed into the cement of the entrance to the above-ground swimming facility. Both the lettering and building entrance designs harken back to the Art Deco era and the sign features stencil-like characters. This inspired a typeface aptly named Municipal Pool JNL, and is available in both regular and oblique versions.

The free-form, Art Nouveau hand lettering on the cover of the sheet music for 1915's "She Was All That a Pal Ought to Be" inspired Neurotic Roman JNL; available in both regular and oblique versions.
